Retail’s rising stars celebrated
The current and future talent of the retail industry took centre stage last night at the Skillsmart Retail Rising Stars Awards held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
The ceremony saw the cream of UK retail talent come together to find out who would be named the sector’s best and most promising stars, with winners receiving their awards from retail entrepreneur and TV Dragon, Theo Paphitis.
An annual event organised by Retail Week, the awards celebrate retail’s many departments, from the shop floor to head office and area managers to apprentices, shining a light on individuals who show outstanding talent, aptitude and initiative in their roles.
Almost 80 people and teams from a range of businesses and skills shops across the country battled it out in 17 categories, hoping to get their hands on the sought after trophies that mark them out as ones to watch for the future.
The winners in the Skillsmart Retail and National Skills Academy for Retail categories were:
Skillsmart Retail Apprentice of the Year – Jodie Donald, Next, Glasgow
Skillsmart Retail Apprentice of the Year – Highly Commended Nathan Lane, Asda, Swanley, Kent
National Skills Academy for Retail Learner of the Year – Rickie Strevens, Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shop, Bluewater, Kent
National Skills Academy for Retail Trainer of the Year – Natalie Kay, Manchester Skills Shop
National Skills Academy for Retail Ambassador of the Year – Salina Gani, Paul UK, London
